What does it mean?
Sela, in the Hebrew dictionary, means rock. But not just any rock; a craggy rock, where one could take refuge from the storm.
That is the word God gave us as we began this journey of creating this company. If you have been a part of a community-focused theater company before, then perhaps you understand the power of people, who have similiar passions, coming together to create beautiful art and do life together. These people become a family.
Countless people have said "I don't know what I would have done without these people through it"...whatever storm "it" was. So, help us build a community that helps each other through the storms! You are welcome here!
The Beauty of Storytelling
And the community that tells it
God was the first storyteller. He used, and continues to use, great stories to share messages...messages of hope, of forgiveness, of reconciliation, of love, of correction, of warning, and so much more. He wanted the stories shared in song, spoken aloud, as well as read quietly. Every time we partake of the stories He's written, we open ourselves up to getting some new nugget of wisdom for that very moment of life we are in! Truly great stories continue to give us new nuggets as we grow.
We believe that those same redemptive messages, which are richly woven through the whole bible, are also available in other human stories. Some would call them secular stories. Once your mind is trained to look for them, you can find them in so many places! If you love God, this is no surprise! He created us...He created stories...He created us to tell the stories He is writing, for our benefit and His glory!
So we want to take stories that you may have heard before and highlight the redemptive messages inside. When Belle overcomes fear of first impressions, digs deeper into the life of one man who is bound by the shame of a past mistake, and sees past that shame to his heart, our hearts swell! When Glinda and Elphaba set down hatred and allow themselves to be changed for good by the other, we are inspired. And when Aladdin decides he no longer wants to be the street rat people think he is, but also realizes he can do that as the person he was created to be, rather than pretending to be someone he is not, we are encouraged! Those are beautiful stories that show some of the attributes of God. And we believe those stories can impact the people who participate...from the lead actor to the patron, from the concession volunteer to the props master, and everyone in between.
So won't you come join us? Bring whatever gifts you have and take this journey with us...a journey to take these beautiful stories and bring them to life, as we create a community that wants to grow together, encourage and support each other in whatever storms or celebrations we encounter!
